Dr. Karena Hanley

Qualified from UCD in 1987, Karena obtained MIGP and MRCGP in 1992. Further qualifications include a Master’s in Family Medicine in 2000 and FRCGP in 2008.

Karena has 30 year’s experience of running a busy GP practice, and has been a medical educator since 2000. She served as assistant Programme Director of the Donegal GP training scheme from 2003 til 2016. Her research interests are varied with international publications in therapeutics, immediate care, the clinical presentation of vertigo and several medical education publications.

Karena is a former Provost of the RCGP Ireland faculty. She has held a variety of ICGP posts, including ICGP Regional Research Adviser, Chair of a number of college committees. In 2016 Karena was appointed as the ICGP National Director of GP training.
